Ever wonder what goes through a journalist’s mind when they first learn about your work? What elements intrigue them enough to cover it? What strikes them as “jargon-y” or too academic to reach a wide, news-consuming audience?

You’re invited to attend an informal Q&A webinar on Zoom from 12-1:30 p.m. Friday, April 22, with Chicago Tribune journalist Darcel Rockett (read her full bio below) to talk through what makes your work worthy of news coverage.

The event is the latest media-training offering from the Office of Global Marketing and Communications (OGMC). The first half of the Q&A will be led by members of OGMC and then we’ll open it to participants to turn on their cameras, unmute and ask their own questions.

Test your own pitching skills

Additionally, we’re looking for volunteers to prepare a few talking points about their work ahead of time to “pitch” during the webinar. Darcel and the OGMC team will give their initial reactions to your summary of work and offer feedback on how to make your talking points, if needed, more versatile and engaging for a lay audience. Email Kristin Samuelson at ksamuelson@northwestern.edu for more details or to sign up.
